OK, don't get all excited, but I believe I might have found the reason why our attempts to fix the siren come up short and fail after 4-6 months. However, I need someone with electrical engineering/electronics expertise to verify my findings.
Most of us failed and had to redo the siren batteries because... we used the wrong batteries. The original batteries were Sanyo Lithium CR17355, NOT CR17355SE, with "SE" being the important part. What's the difference, you ask? Well, in terms of size, shape, or connection type - none. However, look at the discharge characteristics of SE batteries under a minimum load below. Does the 140-160 days until utter failure seem familiar to you?
Now compare the specs for:
CR17335: http://sanyo.wslogic.com/pdf/pdfs/CR17335.pdf
and
CR17335SE: http://sanyo.wslogic.com/pdf/pdfs/CR17335SE.pdf
Pay special attention to Max Discharge current. Waaay different, huh? I believe that SE batteries are made for some special application. They only provide minimum current draw and last about 6 months. Regular (non-SE) batteries is what our Saabs need - lasting 5-6 years and being capable of providing 35 times more pulse current and 187.5 times (!) more continuous current!!! It means that whenever alarm system tries to draw any current from siren batteries it gets starved! Now, if you know anything about electronics (which I don't) - Am I right?
