V6 Timing belt at 60,000 miles? Posted by paulssaab [Email] (#1139) [Profile/Gallery] (more from paulssaab) on Tue, 29 Jan 2008 19:49:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just got my new, old 2001 9-5 V6 SE with 130,000 miles. Researched through my local dealer and found that last belt/pulley change was 75,000 miles. Fortunately, I found this site and realized that unless I felt like rolling the dice, I had to spend some money.
I asked the dealer to change timing belt, all pulleys, tensioner assembly etc. Also asked him to check front wheel bearings because I heard a grinding noise at slower speeds coming from the front end.
Turns out wheel bearings were fine and the grinding I was hearing was most likely from two pulleys that were in pretty bad shape.
Wow, glad I found this site and didn't waste time doing the work.
I plan to do the next timing belt change at 50,000 mile interval instead of 60,000 miles. I'm sure this is old news as I am new to the site but it may help the new or non-mechanical people like myself to hear again.
