The Culprit-2000 9-5 SE Wagon 90K miles, all other systems perfect, thermostat 6 months old.
The Problem- From a dead cold, morning start the Auto ACC functions normally. The blower
starts out slowly until the engine reaches normal temperature and then increases volume and blows HOT air until the cabin attains the desired heat level. All ACC controls seem to work normally.
But, after the cabin reaches comfortable temperature (15-20 minutes), the heat begins to "taper-off" and blow cold air only. The temperature control has no effect on the air temp. No amount of fiddling with any button will increase the air temperature.
The Auto-Off diagnostic calls up the standard 1-08 code. But all parts associated with that error are intact and functioning. The driver side stop arm was replaced in August, so I expected the yellow plastic shaft to be broken. So, with the fancy aluminum repair part in hand, I tackled it again today, only to find nothing broken, missing or bound up. Still showing code 08!
While working on it I started the car and the unit blew hot air for 15 minutes and the stepper motor responded to the upper/lower vent button.
After it began blowing cold air, the stepper motor did not respond to any button command.
So, I am terminally frustrated, nursing a stiff neck and a bad attitude!
Apparently the error code is wrong, and I have no clue where to go next to cure this problem.
Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanx, Mike
