If so, a tech may be able to replace it without pulling the entire transmission. I've had torque converter lock-up problems in some GM transmissions I've owned, and it's been because of the switch from cast iron to aluminum valve bodies (weight savings). Sometimes valves can wear the bores they move in so that fluid leaks around them. This compromises the system's ability to fully lock up the torque converter clutches.
Or, I could be full of crap and the Torque Converter clutches have just worn to the point were the TC is slipping.
If you can drop the transmission pan, you may be able to swap another valve body in. If that doesn't work, then I'm pretty sure you'll have to remove the transmission, and install a new Torque Converter. A tranny overhaul at that point would be wise.
