Interesting idea....I've considered replacing the battery on a preventive basis because the alternative is often a big fat inconvenience. The thought process is the same.
I'd do it at 100K-120K miles. However, I'd do a new thermostat at the same time....and of course, a coolant flush and replacement. The heater control valve, thermostat and coolant flush and relacement all go together conveniently under the heading of cooling system maintenance.
In this vein, it wouldn't be totally off of the wall to consider the water pump, upper radiator hose and coolant sensor at the same time, unless they have already been addressed. My own experience is 80K-100K on a water pump.
