I can't comment on their usefulness, but I do know that either Saab factory Wagon spoiler may interfere with a long cargo pod. I sometimes use a Yakima SpaceBooster, with the rack crossbars moved back to allow the sunroof to open, and there is very little clearance in back with the hatch open. With a spoiler I would be unable to open the hatch more than half way or so.
And I seem to remember someone commenting that the Wagon spoilers can get damaged or hinder hatch operation when there is a lot of hard snow on the roof.
You have probably noticed how good the airflow is around the back end of the Wagon. At highway speeds without any crosswinds, there is practically zero moisture on the back window, even if it is raining pretty hard. That says to me that there is no real "need" for a rear wing.
