I drove the Volvo S80 and XC90 today. They are definitely out. I'm sorry, they don't hold a candle to Saab. Very plain. I agree their 3.2 engine is a dog.
I did drive a 9-3 and a 9-3 Aero today. The Aero had the Saab DVD navigation system. I liked the car alot. From the driver's perspective in terms of creature comfort, it has lots more cubbies and larger door pockets...after all we all travel with alot of "stuff." It was a little rocket. Our local dealer is not the best, and I'm still going to drive cars at the dealer in the next city who sells just Saabs. If you know Dayton, Ohio you'll get that anology.
I'm looking forward to driving a new 9-5 Aero next week when I go visit them. I think the Turbo X is too far in the future for my current needs, and will probably have high lease prices. The XWD interests me alot...both dealers have already warned the lease rates could be very high. Also the last time I tried something new from Saab (1994 900 from the first production batch of the new body style), I got burned in a big way. Saab rolled it out too soon. I had to get a lawyer. That's the short version. So I'm a little concerned about trying something in it's first batch of production. We'll see how the lease rates come in.
Yes, I am going to look at Audi and maybe a couple of Japanese luxury sedans, although I can't imagine myself in one of those....
I'll be asking opinions of the Saab nav system in another post shortly.
