My girlfriend's Aura and my 9-5 have been happily sharing the driveway together for over 5 months now! They are both great cars! The Aura is a standout car for Saturn; say what you will about the brand in the past, Jon Fero said it right; they are TOTALLY different Saturns!
On a side note, my girlfriend loves how her XR-model Aura one-ups my 2002 Aero in just about every category. 252 v. 250 hp; 6sp v. 5sp transmission; 18" v. 17" rims; 6 v. 1 cd in dash; it's even quieter than the 9-5 at freeway speeds (although, I swear my 9-5 has never been the same since the windshield was replaced). The Aura's rear seat entertainment is a nice touch, if not really necessary for the two of us.
Honestly, driving the car away from the dealer, I was racking my brain trying to find the $20,000 difference between the two cars. Answer: very little: Saab has dual ACC, Saturn just has single zone. Both cars have seat warmers, but the Saturn is missing the rear ones (and a rear armrest, for that matter). We average a few mpg's higher on the Saab (~25 v ~21), but the Saturn still has low miles on it. (I think it'll get a few more when the engine has loosened up some.) We did hit over 27mpg through Nevada, and that's with a 3.6L v6. Our Aura has XM (since expired) and the OnStar still works, unlike my poor Saab. My 9-5 has great handling that the Saturn just doesn't match up to, but how often do most of us push that handling limit when we drive? (Not nearly enough! :) ).
All in all, the Saturn Aura is a great new car. It hasn't failed to impress a single person yet. Most everyone agrees, it is far and beyond the nicest Saturn they've ever seen.
