I followed the advice given here to address the infamous steering column click and it worked perfectly. I'm a very 'basic stuff' kind of guy on a vehicle so I was a little apprehensive about messing with the column, but it really was fairly easy.
If you have click now, this easy fix will make your car drive like a completely new vehicle. I'm amazed at how much better the steering feels after doing this. All for the cost of grease and <1hr time.
I did the following:
1. Remove 2 torx screws securing Tech2 connector.
2. Remove underneath dash panel (3 torx screws,1 plastic fastener)
3. Disconnect footwell bulb (2 leads) and remove panel
4. Remove plastic fastener securing carpet adjacent to steering column and pull back carpet.
5. Secure steeling wheel (tie or make sure it isn't able to rotate more than 1/4 - 1/2 turn)
6. Remove 13mm bolt that secures base of steering column to floor. Don't drop washer.
7. Lift U clamp bracket up and off base.
8. Mark spline shaft and spline sleeve so you know how to line them up later. If you don't, there will be lots of trial and error to orient it right to slip back together.
9. Rotate spline assembly around brake pedal and pull off lower portion.
10. Clean both sides (I used alcohol and a microfiber cloth) and re-grease* both making sure all spline surfaces are coated.
11. Work the shaft a few times to ensure coverage.
12. Reverse steps 1-9 to reassemble.
*I used Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease (red).
