Considering an 07 Aero which would be my third Saab. I had an 85 900S for over 15 years, and the 02 Aero to the present time. I have had numverous issues with my present Aero and I have had the 6yr/100k bumper to bumper warranty - and I am very thankful to have had this warranty because my out of pocket cost has been zero. I haven't had many mechanical issues but a lot of electrical. Blinking Xenons, and then one night the right Xenon just went out for over a minute and then came back on, but there was a very constant flicker like a candle blowing in the wind all of the time. I had it in a MINIMUM of four times for this issue finally they replaced both Xenons and the ballasts and everything works perfect now. Another issue was while driving, everything just went dead like I turned the key off I coasted to a stop turned the ignition off and restarted it and it has never happened again. Another time while coming out of my garage in reverse, put it in drive wouldn't move - had to be towed and the problem was a "software update needed for the transmission." The biggie in terms of number of times that it has been in for is interior lights that won't initially go on when opening the doors. I am not exagerating that I have had the car in at least 8 times for this issue (in conjunction with other items) and they still haven't eliminated the problem and the Saab dealer has had it for weeks for this issue. Last year I went out of the country for 12 days and I left it with them. There was another time I left it on a Tuesday and the had it until the following Wednesday and numerous other times they had it for 2-4 day intervals. Sometimes they would admit that they saw what it was doing but couldn't get a fault code on there diagnostics. So they would check these different alphanumeric pin connections, checked the connections on the doors switches, replaced bulbs, checked the pin connections on the main wiring harness and probably every harness and it hasn't been eliminated. Other than just randomly replacing parts I think they exausted the options. Other issues included when the front brake pads were replaced they didn't bother to turn the rotors and so they ended up replacing everything again (including new rotors) for free which the dealer conceded the tech was turning in work that wasn't done properly and they canned him. Then there was the three times to get the rattle out of the passenger door. There are other issues, but you get the picture.

On the one hand you could look at everything and say, 'what's the problem it was all taken care of free of charge." (Almost everything except the intermittent door lights. Yes, but we don't buy products because the warranty coverage works well, we buy a product with the hope that it works well and the warranty hopefully gets used minimally. Would it be acceptable to you to have the plumber out five times for the same issue? Or the electrician out 8 times after he installed some new recessed can lighting for you, because the lights don't come on for the first fifteen to thirty seconds then they blink numerous times then they stay on?

Do you think the dealer would just deliberately not fix an issue until multiple times pass because GM is paying the bill? I believe the present service mgr. is a good guy and much better than his predecessor, and I actually empathize with him. I know he is trying, he has had multiple techs look at the issues. Actually, it is significant enough that GM is offering me goodwill. When I got the car back from this last service visit the comments from the repair order was 'unable to duplicate the door lights not coming on' and yet two days later I open the passenger front door and 15, 25, 35 seconds pass no lights and not until I got in the car from the driver side and NOT UNTIL I started the engine did the passenger door lights come on! I just shook my head and started to laugh. I didn't bother calling the dealer because I was in negotiations with GM on the goodwill and they wouldn't make an offer until the open repair order was closed and fixed!!

What do you think about some goodwill from the dealer?

After all this I still like Aeros and they are really enjoyable, fast and a blast to drive. How about the 07 Aeros I have heard they have more GM parts on them how is that working and what are your thoughts on these newer Aeros since GM has put more of there parts in them?

Thank you for your replies in advance.
