I have seen several posts talking about excessive pressure in cooling system, but I could not get solutions from those posts and need your help.
Ok, here was what happened. One day my wife drove our Saab, 1999, 9-5, V6 and the car overheated because coolant leaked out from the radiator. After replaced the radiator, I can hear the sharp noise coming out from coolant expansion tank because of the excessive pressure in cooling system once I started the car. Also there is gas smell coming out from the expansion tank when I opened the cap. The water started to get into cooling system. After all these happened, I had to replace the expansion tank cap, head gaskets, thermostat, water pump, coolant by-pass valve, radiator hoses. I did test the thermostat and it was stuck when I put into boiling water. So this gave me a reason to think that the stuck thermostat might be a source causing the problem although I can not convince myself. After I changed head gaskets, there was a water leak from by-pass valve. Few days later, the upper radiator hose exploded when I got off from free way. After I replaced both upper and lower radiator hoses, I have driven the car for few weeks and added coolant about three times since I got low coolant messages. So I check the upper hose, it~{!/~}s so bulging. Now I believe the REAL problem was never been solved. By the way, the hose is not getting bulging immediately even radiator fan turns on. It gets bulging after several miles driving. The car itself runs ok.
Here is one thing I do not understand which is my first question. Why is high pressure not released from the cap (now)? I can imagine high pressure might not be released when high pressure was built up quickly in cooling system before I fixed the head gaskets. Now pressure is not built up quickly when I start the car. Do not know why the cap does not release pressure when the pressure is too high. The new cap might be a problem too??? The second question is where the real problem could be? Thanks for reading this long story and please give me some thoughts if you have any. appreciate.
