V6 Valve cover leaks

So a simple DIY job has me pulling my hair out. The back side valve cover start to leak so I ordered the gasket set.
Replaced the gasket, but leaked like you would not believe. I took the covers off again and added a small amount of sealer by the cam cutouts like I saw when I took the old gasket off. Well now it is better, but still it leaks.
Took off the cover again (I'm fast at this now) added thin bead all along. I am not over tightening the bolts, but it still leaks and then smokes. I also noticed that it leaks oil from the oil fill tube area. If I take the oil cap off at idle, I feel no vacuum.
What do I need to do?
TIA
Owen
