My 2001 9-5 wagon with 110k miles died...again. Last week it didn't start for my wife after it had been sitting for just a few minutes in a store parking lot, and then later that night (after it was cooled down?) it started right up for me. So, I assumed it was the CPS and I replaced that right off. It worked great until yesterday when it stranded me at a store parking lot.

The engine is cranking but just not catching. It acts like it's not getting fuel, like I need to quick step on the gas while it's cranking. I believe now that it's the fuel pump (plugs, CPS and all filters are new, DIC is relatively new, second replacement TB was put on a couple weeks ago, etc). I came back to it a few hours later when it was cool and I even tried thumping the fuel tank with a rubber mallet while someone was cranking it...and nothing.

So, am I right in thinking that it's most likely the fuel pump? If so, I will order the insert right away and try to swap it out. It sounds like I may need replacement lines and clamps that can withstand the pressure from the pump? If I ordered the entire assembly (eEuroparts has an assembly for only $250), would I not have to worry about replacing those hard lines, and would I be saved a lot of headache over trying to do just the insert?

Also, someone had mentioned releasing the pressure from the pump/lines by taking out the fuse and then running the car till it dies. How important is that? If the car doesn't start in the first place, I won't be able to release the pressure, right?

Thanks for the input.
