I can only answer question 2.
My dealer put new springs and dampers and got the same alignment rack readings as with the worn springs and dampers. They next changed the subframe because Saab told them that the subframe deforms and they know about it. The new subframe more or less restored the camber and most of the ride height, although it still sat a little low. Perhaps that was attributable to other bushings that were not changed.
In sum, my opinion is you will not get back the ride height without a new subframe. Of course, it might still make sense to try springs and dampers first. Keep us posted.
