Don, you do not need to plasti gauge all the mains and end caps. One of each I think. As they go, so go the rest is the logic. Best place to go as a resource is andrews of princeton motors, I think the site is now called saabpros. Doug Andrews is an expert on all things SAAB, and has authored many articles on the subject of 9 5 engines. Their site has an excellent flow chart on engine care and maintenance, including steps to take should one encounter issues such as yours. As for removing the balance shaft chain, I used a dremel tool with cutoff wheel, taking care where the debris went, and ended up breaking the last bit with a large screwdriver and strong needle nose. I rotated the engine the normal clockwise direction. But as I told you, the cut piece ended up catching on the bottom sprocket and popped a piece of aluminum out of the timing chain case cover. So you need to mitigate that potential. Major job to replace that without removing engine. I did it though, and 01 Aero is running just fine . Good luck, and regards, Tom S.
