Heating system going crazy

Hi folks,
I own a 2003 9-5 Linear Wagon. In summer, the AC/heating automatic system was perfect. Lately, I had both a temp sensor (for cooling fans) and a defective thermostat = no heating in very cold weather. I got these replaced today. Out of the garage, everything was fine, and I drove 90 miles to a friend. Outside temps 0'f. When leaving for home after supper, gee, the engine took a L-O-N-G time to reach its normal temperature and to give some warmth.. Then, once warm, setting the inside temps at around 68'f on "auto" position, the system got on high fan speed and it got HOT inside, really too hot. Even setting it below 60 did nothing.. until I got it to minimum, then it got cold too cold and so on.. what's the problem? As is, it seems impossible to just set it to a comfortable temperature and forget about it. What's wrong?
