I doubt SAAB expanding its lineup would help its survival for now. That is exactly why GM is going down....basically shotgun approach with no product/ brand focus. If Pontiac brand is to appeal its sportier aspects, why do they need Minivan, which is essentially the same car as Chevy anyway??? Too many nameplates out of the same platform with different skin, driven by more marketing BS and they can only fool so much people.....
What SAAB needs is one model to re-establish its heritage and marque, being lost due to too much GM blood. I think more and more long-time SAAB loyalists here are losing interest with newer SAAB models, including myself. I do not care for post-05 9-5, not mentioning any 93's after the hatchback was axed. I think this is where SAAB needs to focus...how to re-connect with loyalists, before trying to capture new buyers.
Look what happened to Porsche about a decade ago. They were near death, then came up with the Boxter, representing modern version of its one of historical milestone car 550 spyder from 50's, to turn it all around. From there until a few years back, they basically had only two models, 911 and Boxter, good enough to get back on their feet and strengthen its financial stability. Now they got Cayenne SUV, Cayman, and coming up with 4-door sedan Panamera. Porsche never lost focus on who they are and where they came from to keep its loyalists. SAAB can learn a lot from this.
I still remember true excitement and satisfaction owning my first SAAB 900 hatch, and no chance that I get the same feeling at the SAAB showroom today.....I am planning to keep my 03 95 SW for very long time, and maybe add another 04-05 to the family, hoping SAAB to come back as who they really should be, hopefully in near future. And I am optimistic.
