Did you intend to turn the car in after the lease expires? If so, don't buy any warranty. The cost/ risk picture just isn't favorable.
If you intend to keep the car for several more years, buy a warranty. There are good ones that don't even cost half of that $3000 PatO mentioned!
I'm no gambler - every new car I own gets an extended warranty near the end of the factory warranty. But I keep my cars at least 10 years. Your situation will probably differ.
Try this link for good coverage and rates. They will email you a quote for their various plans. If you are worried about major components like trannies blowing up in the next couple of years you could consider a short term, high deductible policy. I was quoted a cost of $692 USD for a $200 ded/ 75,000 mile/ 3 year policy, for example. Longer coverage and lower deductible have higher premiums, of cource. Remember that the miles they state are total miles as shown on the odometer, not additional miles.
I have never dealt with this company, but I intend to when the time comes.
