The 9-5 seats are a bit narrower than the 9000 seats. We have both cars and the 9-5 seats are definitely a tad slimmer. However, on longish trips--13 hours or so, they seem about the same for comfort. You and I are about the same size so don't give up hope.
As for the idle, the 9-5 is smoother, and with the 5-speed autobox there is definitely more vibration at idle compared to my manual trans '96 9K, but less than in my daughter's '95 9K with an automatic. I think the trans and engine mounts in the 9-5 isolate vibrations better but Saabs, like most Euro cars, are not all but vibration-free like some of the Japanese cars. But look at it this way: unless you're in stop and go traffic a lot, how much do you sit with the car idling?
