I picked the Tecneco OL 40 from the shelf only to check if this barrel size did fit in my 9-5, and it did ļ
The relief valve settings for the OEM Saab is around 15 psi, the same goes for PL20195 (PT cruiser type).
The big barrel type has 30psi as opening pressure.
I do not know the design rules for the oil filters, so I can`t explain why the filter has 30 psi and the smaller ones has 15psi, but I guess the difference in relief pressure might reflect the resistance to flow in the two different types.
¡§The big one¡¨ has double the length of Saab OEM, meaning twice as better flow, resulting in twice as less need for the relief valve pressure (2 X 15psi = 30psi), right??
As an example Porsche 911 uses Fram PH2881 and this is a big one with 30 psi releif valve.
Anyway,
The volume for the Saab OEM is 0.4 liter and the Big One has a volume of 1.0 liter, some extra oil in the system is good.
And since I tend to mess up every time I try to upload pictures I put the picture of the sandwich adapter without oil filter here:
