TG, I'm just saying based on my experience in the industry, involved in powertrain components. New fluid is developed for new system with a new set of performance envelope, and last thing they worry about is compatibility with older system/ materials.
Oil company advertising 'Dex VI meeting DexIII spec.' does not mean (at least to me) that all materials are fully compatible and validated as they were with Dex III during initial development. Remember that oil company would want to sell new fluid rather than keep making old stuff anyway, and GM would care less about older cars out of warranty or close to. I know for the fact that some seal materials were upgraded solely due to Dex VI compatibility.
Knowing how much time and effort it would take to validate materials every time new fluid comes up, I would rather stick with the original fluid that the product was originally designed for, as long as it is available, and not take any risk going to newer fluid because it sounds like 'better' one. But it's just me and your mileage may be different, totally fine with me.
