Oil pump/timing cover problem

To me this reeks of the classic story of the oil pump gears and/or timing cover itself having been scored or otherwise worn, creating issues with oil pressure.
I think your dealer knows this perfectly well and simply doesn't want to give you the bad news, or be tasked with the repair, which will be costly. They may know that their screen-clearing work may have dislodged a small bit of grit that caused the subsequent oil pump scoring. Nothing much they or anyone can do about that, by the way. All it takes is a piece of grit as small as a grain of sand.
There's really no way to confirm this without disassembling the timing cover for a look, although if you were to install an oil pressure gauge it might at least confirm that pressure is low.
If it were me, I'd be looking to sell that car now. If you're seeing low oil pressure it's a good bet that your bearings, cams and other bits are taking it on the chin. What a shame, such a great engine, cursed with such oil issues.
Others may differ. But I really can't see another explanation.
