I know you said it was inconvenient.....
Getting the code read and confirming its' meaning will help you narrow down the possibilities. This could be a whole lot cheaper than spending money for parts needlessly.
Recently, my wife's 9-5 displayed a CEL (code P1312) with no other symptoms. P1312 and P1334 are the OBD codes for a DI cassette that's heading south. If this is the code get a new DIC quickly. These cassettes can go suddenly, which will demand immediate attention. eEuroparts was my source at $232.
A failed/failing DIC can put an extra burden and damage risk on the catalytic converter. This is where things can get really expensive if you wait.
