The splines are located near the fire wall. There is a universal joint that allows the colum to make a bend. On one side of the universal joint there is a splined shaft inside of a housing. I know this is almost pointless without a photo. But if you lie on your back under the steering colum you will find it about where the carpet ends above the gas and brake pedals.
