The explanation I received for platinum plugs was one of "less maintenance" ie you change the plugs less often...and if you pay someone else to do that task, you save money versus using NGK copper plugs.
Many an AERO owner, and Viggen owner use the NGK "6" copper plugs...
Many 9-5 owners now use the NGK BCPR6ES-11 copper plugs to eliminate "hard start" complaints...run complaints, idle complaints.
FWIW, my local SAAB Master Tech recommends the NGK copper plugs...
(Modified ECU cars use the 7 heat range...)
But, yes, the copper NGK plugs do require more hands-on maintenance, typically regapping at ~ 12-15,000 miles, and change out at 30,000 mile intervals.
