We've been very pleased with our Motorola IHF-1000 installed in my wife's 2001 9.5 Aero for about two years. The car came equipped with OnStar, but we never activated it. I'm not an expert but did do the installation myself. We used the Motorola not OnStar mic, the SAAB wiring harness adaptor sold by a site sponsor and did not use the external speaker suppied with the IHF-1000. I'm not sure what role On Star plays in our installation. The unit it controlled by the IHF switch mounted on the dash, and the steering wheel controls for the volume. The unit self-mutes the car radio/stereo if it's on. It was pretty much plug and play. Everything is voice controled and the speech recognition works well.
