It fits in the wagon because they had to leave enough room for the sliding load floor above a full sized tire. If you look closely at the carpet cover in the sedan trunk, it has a extra "expansion" fold in it designed to cover a full sized tire. It will fit, but your floor will no longer be flush all the way across the trunk. It raises it up a couple of inches.
I have both a sedan and wagon and found these items out the hard way by looking for a place to put the flat tire after I changed it.
