Repairs on our 2004 9-5 Aero (now at 39,000 miles) were the following:
- Replaced thermostat and coolant temperature sensor 12,800 miles
(warranty). Replaced thermostat and coolant temperature sensor again at
38,000 miles (relatively easy DIY job).
- Replace driver's seat subframe due to excessive play 24,000 miles
(warranty)
- A-pillar molding recall in December 2008
- Front brake pads at 36,000 miles
- Passenger side license plate bulb 32,000 miles
Some other things to be aware of:
- Orange headlight relays on halogen headlight equipped cars can be
problematic
- Post 2004 Saab came out with a modified (larger) air intake tube that
goes from behind the front grill to the air filter housing. Cheap (about
$15), easy DIY job (30 minutes) that improves throttle response and pick
up. Would wholeheartedly recommend doing this modification.
Overall our 2004 9-5 Aero has been a great car, routinely getting 30 mpg in highway driving adn 22-24 mpg in local suburban driving. Insuring that you change the oil with synthetic oil at no more than 5,000 mile intervals will keep the sludge monster at bay. We also drain 3-4 quarts of transmission fluid at 10,000 to 15,000 mile intervals to insure that there will be no transmission issues.
