My new to me 2006 9-5 came with the clunk. I first test drove the car at a non-SAAB dealer in February and noticed a slight resistance or snag in the steering, not quite a clunk. By the time I bought the car last month it had 55 or so more miles on it and it had a fairly noticable clunk off the line. Board advice was the splines needed to be lubed, so I bought the car. I figured at worst it was the sway bar links.

Took it into the Katonah, NY SAAB dealer for a scheduled oil change and they knew what the issue was and fixed it under the original warranty. I asked if it was the splines, rep said it was the universal joint in the column needed lubrication, either way, they fixed it.

Oddly, the clunk probably saved me money on the purchase as it may have scared some buyers off.

Arroway Chevy/SAAB seem to be a good shop, having not been into a dealer for service in many years. They said they will remain a Chevy SAAB dealer after all the closings are done.
