In SPORT mode, Trionic (engine ecm) increases the air mass/combustion demand which, for a given accelerator position, results in an increased throttle opening and thus increased power. The throttle position is not changed untill the accelerator position changes from the position it had when the SPORT button was depressed. This change causes gear change points to be adapted to performance. The gear change points for both programmes (SPORT & Normal) are however identical at moderate and fully open throttle positions.
Yes you can drive in SPORT mode all the time. Your gas milage may suffer.
As for manual shift mode
If the driver forgets or fails to change up during full acceleration and the speed exceeds certain criteria for the selected gear, TCM (tans control module) will change up automatically to the next gear.
If the driver forgets or fail to change down even though the speed is far below the lower speed limit for the selected gear, TCM will automatically select a lower gear to avoid dangerous situations such as the driver attempting to pull away in fifth gear.
