Emergency Vehicle Breakdown

Just happened tonight (Saturday). Car started making squeeling noise from the front early in the morning, but I had a business event to attend, so had to drive it today. After getting the car back from the Valet in the evening, notice the "add coolant fluid" notice; thinking I just checked it this morning, shouldn't be a problem. The street is dark (after midnight), so started driving, noticed no power steering left. Driving 1.3 miles (5-10minutes), noticed smoke/steam coming from the hood (too dark at night to distinguish the two). Immediately stopped the car, parked it, and took taxi home.
Question: what just happened? Did the auxillary belt broke? or is it a serpentine belt? Is my engine completely messed up? The car is a 2001 9-5 wagon. How much will it cost to fix? Any recommendation on reliable mechanic for something like this near Kenmore Square area in Boston and surrounding towns? Thank you in advance. How much is my car worth as a clunker trade in?
