I had an '02 Aero and now an '08 Aero. My opinion may be a bit off the mark because I drive almost exclusively on the highway (39K miles on the '08 already), however, there is little difference methinks. I haven't even given it any thought before this post. On the rare occasion when I've needed to stab the brakes on the '08, they have done the job. The Akebonos are wonderful for reducing dust. Is it possible your dad's car is compromised somehow? If there is any difference, it should be minimal between the years.
