Chris, Actually you need to be useing an Anarobic sealer (Permatex makes one), not silicone. Anarobic sealer cures in the absence of air. I know what you're talking about with the oil dripping, but if you give it a wipe right before you put the pan up, it will be ok. I have done many oil pans, and have not had any leak problems when using the correct sealer. Coldshot............
