We also have twins, now 5.5 years old. We also have twin 9-5 SW (MY99 and MY05).

The base units may not be mounted flush in the configuration you mention. What I mean is, depending on the position of the bottom relative to the seat (horizontal or angled), it may alter the front (head) side of the carseat.

I think ours were SnapNGo or something, one base on the driver's side rear, one in the middle, with room for one parent in the passenger side rear seat. That worked quite well, for communicating with the partner while driving.

We used a convex mirror in the back middle to be able to see the kids.

If you did the same thing with mounting, making it X-X-O instead of X-O-X, it should give you enough reclining room.

I know this is obvious, but don't take offence (recalling my 6 months of sleep deprivation), but did you place the seat handles in the upright position, or above the kids heads when loadedin the car. Perhaps you might be able to get an extra inch there....

When you move up, in 18 months, which is the best time to turn them around according to research by Bill Altenhof at UWindsor on head injuries in infants involved in collisions, we can tell you that Britax Marathon seats work well in the X-O-X configuration, in both our 9-5SWs.

Did wish that the MY99 had the latch connectors though.

It is almost time for booster seats.... how it flies.
