Hello, 2002 9-5 Linear with 104,000 miles. The vehicle has been well maintained. It too has been a flawless performer excepting P0116 (thermostat/sensor) and coolant bypass valve. Today, we downshifted from D to 4 to 3 while decending a steep hill. Under gentle acceleration from a stop the car seemed not to react to the upshift to D. At that time the Transmission Malfunction and Check Engine lights came on. Within 30 seconds I had a rag on a bone dry dip-stick. I tried again and withdrew an OK dipstick. The 8 mile drive home was normal. I pulled a P0720 code and both lights cleared simultaneously. Fluid: pale grey with a 'machine' odor. I'm going to flush it REAL SOON. My theory is that the car was nudged into N and the hic-up caused by bumping her into D triggered the trannie code. I don't think the hydrolic circuits used in downshifting caused any delay in the reengagement of D by not draining. Tough to guess because the drivers right foot was controlled and we didn't experience the high revs so common to a neutral start up. Any thoughts? Kira
