2005 9-5 has problems starting after parking on hill Posted by scott47 [Email] (#119) [Profile/Gallery] (more from scott47) on Tue, 29 Sep 2009 16:56:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Honestly I'm not sure if parking on a hill is the source of the problem but the 3 times this has happened (over 3 weeks) it was parked overnight on a small hill. In the morning the car would turn over just like normal but would never fire. To me it seemed like it wasn't getting gas but I suppose it could also be that the plugs weren't igniting the gas...
On Monday it took about an hour before it would start so once it was finally running I took it to an independent near me to look at. Since he couldn't find any problems (it was running then) he offered to take it home last night and park it on a hill at his home. This morning it also wouldn't start for him but where it normally started after some time for me, it wouldn't start at all for him. He ended up having it towed back to his shop. While it was still at his house he checked the fuel pressure which was fine and also replaced the direct ignition cassette with a known-good unit. Neither helped the car start. The last thing he can think of is the crankshaft position switch which he's going to try next.
Has anyone else seen a problem like this and figured out what is causing it? Like I said I don't know for sure that parking on a hill is the culprit but it certainly seems like it might be? Can the crankshaft position switch work most of the time but then only not work in the morning when the weather wasn't any different than it was the day before?
I realize that I'm sort of stabbing in the dark here but I'm hoping I might help him find the problem...
Thanks in advance for your help!
