Hi,

My 2003 Saab 9-5 now shows a "rear light failure" when the car is started. I think there are two faults.

For one, the driver side tail lights do not come on when the car is running. But oddly enough, both driver side tail light bulbs do light up under different operations (one when the brakes are pressed, and both transiently when the trunk is opened). Subsituting the fuses for the tail lights do not seem to make a difference, and visual examination of the bulbs and the wires does not show anything broken. So I don't know what might be causing these tail lights to not come on.

Secondly, the rear fog lights when pressed result in a "Fog lights failed" and indeed the rear fog lights are not working. Again, the bulb filaments look fine as do the wires.

Any suggestions on debugging these two faults would be welcome.
