Sclifford, you're at about 31,000 miles and I have you beat at 42,000 miles on an '08 Aero. I bought it last November with 15,000 miles as a CPO car. Like you, I've had good luck, but I also had good luck with the '02 I bought new.
My only issues are something loose feeling in the steering system (maybe bushings would be items to look at given your comment) and a right-front stereo speaker cover that seems warped and won't stay down in its groove - it keeps popping up. The problem is heat related, and living in Arizona, we get plenty of that here. I've had a car stereo shop try to fix it twice, and the dealer try once, but it keeps coming up.
Otherwise, the car really is flawless. From reading this board occasionally, I get the impression that from '05 or '06 on they are nearly perfect. My answer to your observation about a lack of respect is that the design is old, and Saab relies heavily on 4 cylinder engines. For the automotive press, either online or print, those items are insurmountable problems. Also, if you are in Arizona, and you're talking something that's not an SUV or pickup, well, for a whole lot of folks, there's no more conversation to be had. We've got a pickup, but only use it for what it's designed for.
As for my view on the age, I think the car has aged remarkably well. I honestly don't think an '09 E Class or 5 Series looks better. And the 4 cylinder, well it's both powerful and efficient, what more could one want? I've been around my share of Japanese V-6s, and though smooth, who cares (except an auto journalist). I enjoy listening to an engine that seems to have a bit of grit to it. Oh well, I've rambled enough I guess... nice to know there are other happy recent model 9-5ers out there.
