I think this is just the combination of the 4 cyl. torque converter drag, and transverse engine, a trait of most auto transmission Saab's for a long while. Some folks are more bothered than others. I've noticed that the vibration tends to diminish when the car breaks in. It has been present in every Saab I've driven but to a much lesser extent on the V6. Try putting the transmission in neutral to see if the vibration diminishes. Cars with manual transmissions idle much better because they don't have the converter drag.
When I got my first Saab, after driving a Lexus, I found it very annoying, but time passed and I've become more used to it. If you think the 9-5 is bad, try a 9000 auto, but make sure your fillings are tight first!
Idle vibration is an area where Saab could improve, but the car has so many great attributes I'm inclined to forgive this deviation from normal ;>)
Of course, you should have the car checked out too. Failure of an engine or transmission mount will greatly amplify the vibrations. The best way to check if your car is abnormal is to drive a similar model to see if it is better. If yes, something is probably amiss.
