Saabsunited.com is a great site if you're interested in following these rumors. I read their a few days ago that Beijing Auto (BAIC) was actually the critical reason why the sale of SAAB to K-segg fell through. If I understand correct, BAIC started out posturing themselves as a silent minority owner but as time went on it became clear they wanted to use the Saab relationship to acquire Saab/GM technology. GM supposedly killed the K-segg deal, and the reason was because of BAIC (note this is rumor, I can't prove it, but it makes logical sense).
The last thing GM needs is to help create another Asian auto competitor by handing them technology at bargain prices. I think it'll be a cold day in hell before GM lets that happen.
Saab has started making the new 2010 9-5. Unlike Saturn and Pontiac, Saab had multiple suitors who wanted to buy it (therefore it would seem dumb to just shut down Saab). I can't imagine GM not selling it or trying to keep Saab for themselves if they can find a way to get away with it.
