Timing Belt SNAFU update... Posted by AMG [Email] (#3110) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AMG) on Sun, 6 Dec 2009 09:46:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First thank you to the 9-5 board for being so helpful with this. So as you know I lost control of cam sprocket # 2, it rotated forward.
I attempted to move it backward into position. I was met with resistance 3 cam sprocket teeth away (forward) from the timing mark. I attached the belt at that point and attempted to turn the engine over slowly by hand, hoping for the best. I am now at a point of resistance in forward (clockwise) rotation. I have now lost the ability to ensure timing on the remaining cams as well.
I'm at the point now where I want to remove the heads. I have WIS, it appears to state that I could remove the heads, turn the motor to TDC, set the cams in place manually, and retime it from scratch. Is this the correct idea?
Surely taking this to a professional would be better, but economically it just doesn't make sense. The estimate for labor alone approaches replacement cost of the car. I have nothing to lose by going forward...
