So I finally put the car back together after my DIY Timing Belt replacement, and it runs fine! Here's a short recap: Lost control of Cam Sprocket 2 when trying to install new belt. Cam 2 is on the verge of "flipping over" when it's aligned to replace the belt, so it's easy to have it spring forward if it's not locked down. The force of the cam sprocket spinning forward made me fearful I had damaged the engine. This was not the case.
To fix it I removed the belt, turned the motor to 60 deg BTDC, realigned the cams properly, and reinstalled the belt. Everything else went relatively smoothly. Total time was at least 12 hours, too much of which was spent making sure the timing was aligned properly. I also removed the camshaft covers and intake manifold to realign the cams, this was not necessary as it turns out. I'd say 4-6 hours next time.
I want to say thanks to so many posters on here that helped: Mark, Anders, LesH, B. Millar, Craig, David Ingram, etc etc - thanks to everyone who helped me out, and special thanks to Gary Bender for his write-up with pictures. Sooo tired right now, worked all day in 20 degrees but it works! Thanks again!
