traction control observations--lengthy

I live in the north country and have had plenty of time to test the utility of the traction control on really bad road ice with my 2001 aero wagon (5 speed) these past few weeks. To keep myself amused, I have gone over the same sections of icy road with TCS engaged and disengaged. I find that the car gets going much better with TCS turned off. My car has a five speed manual transmission and has a pair of somewhat worn gislaved snow tires in the front and a pair of fairly new michelin snows in the back. Anyone else here also believe that TCS is kind of worthless? BTW, a worthless feature like TCS is still way better than some of the other electronic features on our cars, like the anti-theft chip on the key thing and the self-locking hatch lids, which are way worse than worthless IMHO.
