Here are my thoughts after 1000 miles in my first Saab, a '02 Aero wagon.
Positives:
1. PERFORMANCE!!! The engine - wow! Handling - excellent. Torque-steer - almost non-existent. Just a great driving car all the way around. Enough said.
2. Seats - very comfortable.
3. Xenon headlights - never had them before and hope to never go without them again.
4. Rain sensing wipers - at first I thought these were just another gimmick. It wasn't until I had gotten out of the car after the test drive and my wife said - man those wipers are great. It was intermittently raining, and I hadn't thought about the wipers once during the drive. Very nice.
5. Instrument cluster - very intuitive. Especially like the speedometer that has a different scale for 80+.
6. Appearance of the car - never received so many compliments on a car before. I even like the silver dash - I think it looks great with the dark gray interior and black exterior.
7. Hard shelf in the back cargo area instead of the flimsy pullout divider that most wagons have.
8. Oh yeah - safety! I always feel safe when I sit behind the wheel of this car.
There's lots more, but most of them could be summed up into one main point - Saab has designed this car for the driver so that he/she can concentrate on the one thing they're supposed to be doing while in a car - driving. Accident avoidance is the best safety feature in this car, IMHO.
Now for the other side of the coin:
1. Car had problems and was in the shop within the first two weeks with a fautly valve gasket. Sure hope it was a one-time thing...
2. Manual transmission - gear shifting still feels a little loose. I prefer the feel of the manual transmission in the BMW.
3. Windows do not remain active after engine turned off (like the radio does). My '97 Jetta has this feature and is definitely missed in this car.
4. No sunroof or window control via remote. Again, something my '97 Jetta has and should be available in this car.
5. Very limited storage area up front, no 'good' place to put small garbage
6. Radio - specifically the rear speakers (see recent post) - there's just not much sound there. I've definitely heard better stock systems than the HK in the Saab.
7. Key FOB size (please make it larger - yeah right!)
8. Really wish there was a garage door opener (home-link type device) built into the car (can't they use the OnStar antenna?) How expensive can it be? I hate having a large garage door opening hanging down from the sun visor.
Not many complaints, and still definitely loving the car. Happy to be part of the Saab club. :>
