99 9-5 4 cyl wagon - 131k engine rebuilt 8K ago with new DIC and MAF Sensor at the same time. FYI when the mechanic got the engine back in and running he said the tranny was slipping. It had been sitting for months. He changed the tranny fluid and there weren't any problems since until recently. New (used) TB and rebuilt ABS since the engine rebuild.
I haven't posted in a while, but......a couple of months ago I got the check gearbox light and CEL with tranny slipping. Got it home but by then the tranny wouldn't move the car either forward or reverse. Just parked it since then.
Today I did one drain and fill with Advance Auto Dex III and Lucas tranny treatment. I was encouraged that the tranny pulled the car in drive and reverse but after driving about a mile it started slipping badly again. I found that if I turned off the engine and started it back up that it would pull better for a little bit and got back home that way.
I checked the codes: P1624 and P0730. I think the 730 is an engine code that was tripped because of the tranny problem.
So....my choices seem to be:
1. Tow it to the Dealer for diagnosis (my least favorite choice but the closest independent with Tech II is over 100 miles away)
2. Try another drain and fill (skeptical about that one)
3. Sell the car....(if I don't push it off a cliff)
The thing that keeps bugging me is that I really have a feeling that it is stemming from an electrical problem. Ever since the engine was rebuilt there are lots of nagging issues like the TB, the ABS, intermitent brake light failures, battery died, etc. Even with the rebuilt ABS, I recently started having the ABS light on again at odd random intervals. Now I know all these things are common failure points but I've just got this feeling that there is some voltage problem related to when the engine was removed and put back in. I looked at the + and - battey cables today and they all seemed to be OK.
So anyway, anyone have any advice or suggestions? Are there options beyond 1-3 above? What do you think of my electrical problem theory and what might be done to diagnose that?
I would really appreciate your suggestions/input.
Thanks.
