Replace it. Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Mon, 1 Feb 2010 14:04:09 In Reply to: Speckled Windshield, Blake, Mon, 1 Feb 2010 05:49:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I got my first 9-5, a 2001 with 159k miles on the odometer with the original windshield. It was BAD. The way I understand it is that some states require insurance companies to include glass in your policy, while other's make it optional. I'm pretty sure CT is optional, but we pay a little extra for full glass coverage. I'm still on my parents' insurance policy so my father called Amica and explained to them that it was sand-pitted and dangerous and they had no issue replacing it (with a PPG I think). The new windshield was like getting a new car. It was amazing. Of course... six months later some drunk doofball took a rock to that windshield while I was parked at UConn one weekend. Once again, Amica had no problem sending out a glass guy to replace it in my driveway (they used Pilkington that time for some reason).
I got my 2004 Aero with only 31k miles on it, and it was noticeably pitted. Nothing worth making a stink about yet (plus it has the rain sensor which I'd rather not mess with, although I could probably request OEM) but in my opinion my windshield looks like it belongs on a car with more like 80k miles on it.
Soft glass? I don't know. I wouldn't blame it on GM either though... All the OEM stuff is "Sekurit" which I get the idea is of decent quality. (?)
