In my experience (this is the second set of 235s I have had), the 235 is more about the heigth than the width . The width seems totally exactly the same, but the height it is a tad bit talled and it fills the wheel well a little more and to me it just looks better. Handles almost the same, but yes a little softer on turns than the 225s were. I put more air in them and that seems to fix that.
To answer about the gas mileage, the Pirellis were better than the michelins even when the pirellis were new, but I do think for some reason the Falkens are not as good on gas, even considering the new tread.
The Pirellis I would get 30 on the highway, and actually that was really more than 30 because of the increased diameter. The new ones I get 28.
cheers,
