I can relate somewhat to your situation as I had an '02 Aero, and now an '08. The '02 was wrecked, so there was no choice about moving on. Agreed, the '08 has cheaper carpeting, slightly cheaper leather, a somewhat coarse texture to the dash, etc. The new instrument design doesn't have a SAAB look to it, and the radio could have come straight out of a Buick.
However, the '08 has been perfectly reliable to date with not one issue (and it already has 52,000 miles!). The driving dynamics and overall refinement that can only be felt by the seat of the pants keep me happily SAABing. I also don't have to worry about sludge issues, the transmission valve body, or anything else that plagued earlier models. It took a while to get used to the new nose, but one can get used to it.
I can say from experience that attempting to drive an older car forever because one is in love with it can only last so long. Even if your '00 is in great shape, some things will "age out". Doesn't matter how well the car has been maintained. Five years from now the '00 will be 15 years old.
If it were me, I'd keep both and eventually sell the '00 when the time feels right. If that's not practical, I'd swallow hard and sell the '00. You'll be surprised at the affection you will develop for the '06 in time. Your problem is you are comparing the two on a daily basis and you're letting a few items of comparison not allow you to fully appreciate the '06. It's a great car, AND you already bought it!
