Reviewing my options related to my random alarm siren goings-off. Background:

I have removed the fuse from the engine compartment that controls the siren, consequently I have no A/C and I get the STA message on SID. I want to eliminate the STA message, have *NO ISSUES* with the siren and/or horn sounding, and regain use of the A/C. I have *NO USE* for the alarm in any way shape or form, so I am not interested in either rebuilding or replacing it, and *complete silence* is preferred- after all, I can watch the lights blink when I press the button, I don't need to piss off my neighbors with inane chirpy-chirping. I already have a dent in my trunk lid from someone, though I suspect my brother for a reason unrelated to the alarm.

My local dealer told me it can't be done, yet people here have allegedly accomplished this with apparently different tactics. I went to an independent Saab specialist today who first told me that it couldn't be done, then when I told him I've read that it can and has been done, told me that the Tech2 will allow it on some cars, and not others, with no apparent reason for what makes it possible. (????) They are willing to make an attempt as apparently this comes up from time to time, so I have an appointment in a couple weeks.

After doing a lot of reading here, I have discovered that there seems to be conflicting information about what can and can't be done, and some issues aren't discussed in the same thread, making it that much harder to determine this. So I'm posting this to, hopefully, become an alarm FAQ, and will follow-up in a couple weeks with my specific results. If you have definitively deactivated your alarm, please respond with Option 1, 2. 3 or "other" and describe what your alarm does/doesn't do and how this was accomplished.

I believe there are 3 options, but I still have questions about the scenarios.

Alarm synopsis:
____________________
Option 1:

Physically remove alarm batteries, use Tech2 to disable STA message.

Will this retain "chirps" from siren? Can these can be turned off?
Will still retain alarm functionality, via siren?
Will alarm still activate randomly, assuming all sensors are working properly, or is this directly related to the batteries?
Will A/C function with siren batteries missing?

This option may be preferred because the Tech2 may not have the proper software loaded for a given year car to disable the siren.

According to Swedecar this is accomplished by: "If you only want to turn off the SID's ability to display the STA message you go to Diagnostic/Year/Model/Body/SID/Adjustments/Service theft alarm message and click off."
________________
Option 2:

Disable alarm siren using Tech2, which may or may not be possible? (Depending on who you ask)

Will alarm function via horn? Or is there an option of using the horn? I have read that the alarm can either be full-inoperative or set to use the horn instead.
Does the STA message still need to be disabled or does it automatically not test with the siren disabled?

Again, according to Swedecar this is accomplished by: "If you want to remove the theft alarm you go to Diagnostic/Year/Model/Body/TWICE/Programming/Spare part programming and answer the different question popping up telling it it doesn't have theft alarm and that it is Europe market."

With the additional note from another post that: "I also seems to remember that I have to use ROW (rest of the world or EU setting) to get it right because if I use US, it will make the car horn act up."
_______________
Option 3:

Physically remove siren entirely, disable STA message as above.

Does this affect anything else? Will A/C still work without siren plugged in?
Will alarm automatically use the horn instead or does it specifically need to be programmed to use the horn?
