Coolant Bypass Valve maybe? Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 07:15:04 In Reply to: Coolant Relief Valve, David Torrey, Wed, 17 Mar 2010 15:57:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That should be on the firewall, slightly right of center, with three large hoses and a smaller one.
I may be wrong, but I'm not sure how this would affect Trionic getting the proper temperature. The temp sensor on a 4-cylinder is on the left side (all "sides" are referenced to a driver sitting in the seat) of the cylinder head, under the intake hose. The sensor goes into the head horizontally, parallel to the engine axis.
If Trionic is getting a bad read, then either the sensor is bad, the wiring from the sensor is bad, or perhaps the thermostat is bad. How does your temp gauge look?
A few months ago, I replaced the thermostat and sensor on my 1999 LPT sedan, and it took only about two hours, and I was taking my time about it... I wasn't getting a code, but i was getting odd readings on the temp gauge.
Of the three (sensor, t-stat & bypass), the sensor is the easiest to change out, the t-stat next easiest, and the bypass valve the hardest.
